World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus warned that caution should be exercised about easing the measures taken against the coronavirus.
During a virtual press conference organized from Geneva, the director general called on countries to take into account the WHO recommendations concerning deconfinement.
According to Ghebreyesus, health systems must be able to “detect, isolate, test and treat each case as well as trace each contact”.
He also called on countries to take preventive measures "at workplaces, schools and other places where it is essential that people go."
The head of WHO warned that if countries do not manage the deconfinement process carefully, a return to containment will become mandatory.
"The pandemic will eventually recede, but there can be no return to normal," concluded Ghebreyesus.
